And Now… I’m 26

Today I celebrated a hugely successful 26th birthday with good food, new friends, my incredible family, the girl I love and the amazing news that I’ve personally been immortalised in a new series of fantastic children’s books by the brilliant New York author Suzy Chase-Motzkin. I’ll update tomorrow with more details on that. But I want to sign off this great and memorable day with this very real, first-hand observation…

Oscar Wilde said “It’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.”

I absolutely believe it. I know way too many people that dread the thought of their inevitable birthday because it reminds them of how much older they’re getting and how little they’re getting done. Fix it simply. Take old Oscar’s great advice. If you fill as much of your days with small adventures, random encounters, sporadic moments and impulsive decisions you’ll feel a lot more like you’ve had a busy year by your next birthday. Imagine if you do that for the rest of your life. You’d have filled it out entirely! And your deathbed would just be a place to chill, thinking of all the incredible things you did for yourself that made your life feel full. You won’t mind turning 80 if you’ve already maxed your days out doing everything you’ve ever wanted. You could die happy, peaceful and above all else - fulfilled. There’s no way you’d dread getting old or slipping away, because you made the most of your life.

That’s what I think about it all anyway.
